Thinking about trying MMA for the first time?

At American Top Team Palm Beach Gardens (ATTPBG), we make it easy for beginners to start their journey — no experience needed, just a willingness to learn. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, build confidence, or one day step into the cage, you’ll find your starting point with us.

Here’s everything you need to know before your first class.

What to Expect on Day One

Walking into a martial arts gym for the first time can be intimidating — but at ATTPBG, you’ll be welcomed like family.

Your first class will usually start with a group warm-up, some technique drills, and light partner work. No one expects you to be perfect. Coaches and teammates will help guide you through every step.

You'll also meet people of all levels — from total beginners to experienced fighters — all working to get better together.

At ATTPBG, everyone remembers their first day, and everyone helps each other out.

What to Wear and Bring

You don’t need fancy gear to start. For your first MMA class, bring:

  • Comfortable workout clothes (T-shirt, shorts, leggings, Flip Flops/Sandals, etc.)
  • A water bottle
  • An open mind and positive attitude

We’ll teach you everything else as you go.

If you stick with it, you’ll want at least some basic gear like Boxing gloves and shin guards — but for now, just show up.

Common Fears (And Why You Shouldn't Worry)

  • What if I’m not in shape yet?

No problem. You get in shape by training. Our coaches scale workouts to your level.

  • Will people judge me?

Absolutely not. At ATTPBG, everyone starts somewhere. Respect and support are part of our culture.

  • Do I have to spar or fight?

Only if you want to. Most beginners focus on learning and fitness first. Sparring and competition come much later — and only if you choose it.

Why Start at ATTPBG?

  • World-class coaches with real experience
  • Supportive, family-like environment
  • Programs for beginners, hobbyists, and serious competitors
  • Flexible schedule with morning, evening, and weekend classes

At ATTPBG, you're not just joining a gym — you're joining a team that’s dedicated to helping you grow.

Ready to Get Started?

Whether your goal is fitness, fun, or fighting, your first step is simple: show up. We’ll handle the rest.

Sparring is an essential part of martial arts training, but safety always comes first. At American Top Team Palm Beach Gardens, we prioritize structured, respectful sparring with clear rules, proper gear, and coach oversight. Whether you’re sparring in Muay Thai, BJJ, or MMA, we emphasize technical growth over power. Beginners are never thrown into hard rounds. Instead, they’re eased into contact work with drills, controlled pace, and constant feedback. We require all students to wear mouthguards, shin guards, and gloves—and we maintain a strong culture of mutual respect. Our coaches keep a close eye on every round, ensuring safety and correcting technique as needed. This approach is why we’re trusted by hobbyists, competitors, and parents alike from Palm Beach Gardens and surrounding areas. Sparring should build confidence—not cause injury. Train smart. Train safe. Call (561) 383-3383 , email contact@attpbg.com , or schedule your free consultation today.

After a fight or tournament, your body and mind need time to recover—and your training plan should reflect that. At ATTPBG, we help students process their performances and come back stronger.
