Curious about Muay Thai but not sure where to start?

At American Top Team Palm Beach Gardens (ATTPBG), we specialize in helping beginners discover the art of eight limbs — and we make it welcoming, exciting, and beginner-friendly from the very first day.

Here’s exactly what you can expect when you step onto the mats for your first Muay Thai class.

What is Muay Thai?

Known as the "Art of Eight Limbs," Muay Thai is a striking martial art that uses punches, kicks, knees, and elbows.

It’s not only one of the most effective striking arts in the world — it’s also an incredible way to build strength, cardio, flexibility, and confidence.

At ATTPBG, we teach Muay Thai the right way: technical, powerful, and accessible for everyone.

What Happens in Your First Class

Starting Muay Thai doesn’t require fancy gear.
For your first class, just bring:

  • Comfortable athletic clothes (Sndals, T-shirt and shorts work great)
  • A water bottle
  • A willingness to learn!

We have loaner equipment available (like gloves and shin guards) if you need it.
Once you’re hooked — and trust us, you will be — you can invest in your own gear.

What to Bring and Wear

Your first Muay Thai class will usually follow this flow:

  • A short, dynamic warm-up (designed for beginners)
  • Learning basic stance, footwork, and guard
  • Drilling simple techniques like jabs, crosses, low kicks, and defensive movement
  • Light partner drills or pad work with a coach or classmate

You won’t be sparring on Day 1 — and you won’t get thrown into anything you’re not ready for.
The focus is learning, moving, and having fun.

Sparring is an essential part of martial arts training, but safety always comes first. At American Top Team Palm Beach Gardens, we prioritize structured, respectful sparring with clear rules, proper gear, and coach oversight. Whether you’re sparring in Muay Thai, BJJ, or MMA, we emphasize technical growth over power. Beginners are never thrown into hard rounds. Instead, they’re eased into contact work with drills, controlled pace, and constant feedback. We require all students to wear mouthguards, shin guards, and gloves—and we maintain a strong culture of mutual respect. Our coaches keep a close eye on every round, ensuring safety and correcting technique as needed. This approach is why we’re trusted by hobbyists, competitors, and parents alike from Palm Beach Gardens and surrounding areas. Sparring should build confidence—not cause injury. Train smart.
